Airlines are slowly resuming their flights, and some passengers are also opting to fly compared to the number of passengers for the last few months. But the risk of transmission of the virus is still high. What are the airlines’ safety measures for their passengers?

Like many other establishments, airlines check the temperature of each passenger. Almost all of them use electrostatic spraying to disinfect their planes. They also require passengers to wear face coverings/masks. Some are implementing pre-flight surveys as part of their safety programs.

They are offering fewer seats to follow social distancing by making the middle seat empty. People boarding the plane at the same time is limited to avoid too much interaction between passengers.

Some airliners use HEPA filters that trap particles, including viruses. According to the Center for Disease Control (CDC), “Because of how air circulates and is filtered on aeroplanes, most viruses and other germs do not spread easily on flights. However, there may be a risk of getting COVID-19 on crowded flights if there are other travellers on board with COVID-19.”

HEPA filters make the airflow move up and away from the passengers. This filtration system will potentially help in reducing the spread of the virus. The riskiest is having close contact with another passenger that’s coughing or sneezing.

Do you think these safety measures that airlines are doing are enough to make you feel safe to fly?
